We rarely pause to think when we pick up a handbag:
Where does its color come from? How is it dyed? Is it truly friendly to nature?
World Environment Day reminds us to look at these questions again.
June 5th marks World Environment Day, established by the United Nations in 1972 to raise global awareness of environmental protection and sustainable development. For BAMPO, however, it is not just a reminder once a year—it is a choice embedded in our everyday practice.
At BAMPO, we believe fashion and sustainability can go hand in hand. Each handbag is not only an accessory, but also a carrier of our commitment to responsible craftsmanship. From natural materials to eco-friendly processes, BAMPO continues to translate sustainability into tangible action.

Dong-Cloth: Where Ecology Meets Culture
BAMPO’s Dong Collection is crafted from Dong-cloth, dyed entirely with natural plant-based pigments, without any chemical additives. In traditional practice, the fabric is repeatedly soaked in indigo-based plant dye baths, with a small amount of lime added to help fix the color onto the fibers. After multiple cycles of dyeing and sun-drying, the fabric is further adjusted and deepened using green persimmon juice to create richer tonal layers. Finally, repeated applications of egg white are used to fix and polish the fabric, giving it both stability and a natural sheen.

This entire process is repeated many times until the color naturally settles. As a result, each piece of Dong-cloth carries unique textures and tones, preserving the raw authenticity of plant-based dyeing and reflecting BAMPO’s respect for both nature and culture.

Tea Plantation Ecology: Organic Farming & Natural Dyes
BAMPO’s tea plantation, located in Dong communities, is cultivated without pesticides through organic farming methods, allowing the land to maintain its natural ecological balance. Beyond agriculture, tea leaves are transformed into natural dye extracts, which are then used in the vegetable-tanned leather dyeing process. This not only reduces environmental impact but also gives each vegetable-tanned leather bag its unique, organic tone that matures beautifully over time.

Through sustainable plantation management and natural dye extraction, BAMPO brings nature into its products, allowing every handbag to become part of an ongoing dialogue with the environment.
Every Bag is a Promise to the Earth
At BAMPO, every choice of material, every dyeing process, and every stage of craftsmanship is rooted not only in aesthetics but also in responsibility.
When a handbag naturally develops its warm, organic tone, it carries not only daily life but also respect for nature and traditional craftsmanship.

Sustainability is not a slogan—it is an action. Through every piece we create, BAMPO reminds people that fashion and sustainability can coexist, and beauty and nature can thrive together. Choosing BAMPO is, in itself, a small promise to the future of our planet.
