Nature
Inspired by the majestic landscapes of Sichuan and Guizhou in China, we draw from the rhythms of the Earth and the philosophy of harmony between humans and nature. From the curve of mountains to the shape of the moon, every detail finds its way into our designs.
In addition, we respect nature in action by using plant-dyed Dong cloth, vegetable-tanned leather, and timeless techniques rooted in tradition.
Heritage
What if your bag held a 2,000-year-old secret?
At Bampo, we bring intangible cultural heritage into modern life. One of our treasures is Dong cloth, which is famous for its glowing blue-violet sheen and crafted through “10 rounds of dyeing, bleaching, and hammering”.
To preserve this fading tradition, our designers spent 4 years living in a remote Dong village in Guizhou, learning the craft stitch by stitch.
Inspired by ancient myths and architecture, we also designed our hardware in the shape of the hulu (gourd), a symbol of health and good fortune. Every bag tells a story, carries a blessing, and holds a touch of “magic”.
Giving Back
How can each purchase create a lasting impact? For every Dong cloth bag and other bags sold, we donate a portion through the "Bampo Folk Art Foundation" to support local artisans.
We also create income opportunities for local Dong tribe women and farmers, allowing them to stay home and care for their children.
By purchasing Dong cloth at above-market prices and turning it into unique bags, we help revive traditional plant dyeing, while supporting a positive cycle for the local economy and environment.
